How to Make Christmas LED & Bulb Blinking Light String Circuit at Home
LED String / Strip Circuit Diagram Using PCR-406
It is a very interesting circuit of blinking/dancing and flashing LED String / Strip. Any one can make it at home as it is very simple and the basic components can be found at any electronic components shop. This LED strip/string circuit (dancing/blinking LED circuit) is an interesting circuit where LED bulbs light and glow in different ways like “Dance” and “Blinks” and most suitable for X-MAS, birthday, anniversary parties, holidays and other related light decoration at home.
This LED flashing circuit blinks and glow in the following series.
- Combination
- In Waves
- Sequential
- Slo-Glo
- Chasing/Flash
- Slow/Fade
- Twinkle/Flash
- Steady On.

Below is the step by step tutorial to make the led blinking and dancing LED strip circuit.
Inside the box, the basic circuit on general purpose PCB. (Back Side of the PCB)
This is the front side of the LED circuit (Front view without box).
Now turn around to see the basic and very simple circuit of these funny LED string. It can be seen that the circuit is DIY (do it yourself) related stuff and anyone knowing the basic functions of electronic components can make at home.

Components Required for Christmas LED String Circuit
- SCR 1 and SCR 2 = PCR 406 PNPN
- D1 = IN 4007
- C = 10μF, 16 V
- R1 = 2MΩ
- R2 = 150kΩ
- LED = 60 Nos
- IC/Chip (Programmable) = Y803A
- Tactile Switch = Pattern Change
- Input Voltage
- 220V, 50-60 Hz

when you complete the circuit on general purpose PCB or breadboard, then connect 60 Nos of LED (white or whatever color you want). Now supply the 230V AC (UK) or 120V AC (US) and the LED string will start to glow and flash. You may also control the way of blinking by pressing the control button on the circuit box.
Below are the different colors and shapes of LED’s and light with incandescent and LED’s tested with the circuit.

It isn't a programmable IC….i.e. its already programmed

The circuit as published is dangerous as it is missing the load resistors (these are not in the control box but fitted to the first LED in the strings). These should be 5K, one in each string, to limit current to 20 ma. Also, the ones fitted at manufacture are 1/8 watt and are totally inadequate. Hy, i have next situation: from 4 SCRs i gues all its broken, i put a diode to close circuit and i check the 4th line of lights. I have about 195Vdc to terminals. After that just one lighting. Who knows what is the voltage to collector of PCR406J, in may case i have 198Vdc, but is alright that???
And way if i try to connect a line to 220Vdc some bulbs from 2lines lighting to low….is possible to been short circuit with other line???
Hi, I need modification of cheap Christmas garland lights for my diorama
it is going to be battery operated (2x CR2032 6v in series or even 1 battery if possible 3v) an I will use only four 3mm led, i need ic yt803a for different programs (it has 8 modes)
This schematic of circuit is originally 220v ac powered. Which modification of circuit do I need for it to be operational for my diorama (probably modification of resistors and diode); I need minimum number of parts because the circuit is battery operated.
Enclosed images show versions with 2 and 3 transistors but circuit is the same.
