Amazon Deploys 27 Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 Electric Trucks in Germany With 621-kWh Battery and 500-km Range
Amazon has begun deploying its first Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 electric trucks in Germany, with the initial 27 vehicles now handed over to the company. More than 50 of the battery-electric trucks are expected to be operating on German roads by the end of 2026, marking a major expansion of Amazon’s heavy-duty electric transport fleet.
The German deployment is part of Amazon’s order for more than 200 Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 trucks across Europe, announced in January 2025. It is the company’s largest electric-truck order so far, with most of the vehicles planned for the United Kingdom and more than 50 allocated to Germany. Deliveries to the UK began in late 2025, while the German deployment has now started.
The trucks will mainly operate on Amazon’s “middle-mile” routes. These routes connect fulfillment centers, logistics centers, sortation facilities and urban delivery locations rather than carrying packages directly to customers’ doors. The electric trucks are therefore being used for the longer transport legs between Amazon’s logistics facilities.
The eActros 600 is designed as a heavy-duty electric truck for long-distance and regional freight operations. It uses three battery packs with a combined installed capacity of 621 kWh, based on lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery technology. Mercedes-Benz Trucks gives the vehicle a range of around 500 kilometers on a full charge, although real-world range can vary with payload, weather, terrain, driving conditions and other factors.
The truck is technically designed for a gross combination weight of up to 44 tonnes. With a standard trailer in the European Union, Mercedes-Benz lists a payload of around 22 tonnes, although applicable national regulations can allow different payload limits. The eActros 600 began series production at Mercedes-Benz’s Wörth plant in Germany in late 2024.
Charging infrastructure is being expanded alongside the trucks. Amazon says it is installing hundreds of truck charging stations at its European locations, with the charging system capable of taking an eActros 600 from 20% to 80% in slightly more than one hour under specified conditions. Earlier Amazon information specified 360-kW charging stations, while Mercedes-Benz says its stated charging time is based on 400-kW charging at a DC fast charger with 500 A under the relevant heavy-duty vehicle testing conditions.
As per Amazon US press center, it is investing more than €1 billion in Europe to electrify and decarbonize its transportation network, including more than €400 million in Germany. The company previously said its European plans included more than 1,500 electric trucks, with more than 500 intended for Germany, alongside thousands of electric delivery vans and other zero-emission vehicles. The new eActros 600 deployment extends electrification beyond the last-mile delivery stage into heavier inter-site freight operations.
