China Develops Qiji X1 Robot Horse than Can Carry a 660-Pond Humanoid Robot for Hours
China’s DaxAI Robotics has demonstrated the Qiji X1, a large four-legged robotic platform designed to carry people and heavy loads across uneven terrain. The machine was showcased at the 2026 World Robot Conference in Beijing, where a humanoid robot was demonstrated riding on its back like a passenger on a mechanical horse.
The Qiji X1 combines four articulated mechanical legs with a saddle and handlebars. A rider sits on the saddle and uses the handlebars to control the machine, while its onboard control system manages balance and leg movement. Unlike a conventional vehicle, it has no wheels and uses a quadruped walking system designed for surfaces where wheeled vehicles can have difficulty.
DaxAI says the Qiji X1 can handle a maximum dynamic payload of about 300 kilograms (661 pounds). The robot itself is also reported to weigh approximately 300 kg, meaning its claimed payload is roughly equivalent to its own mass. This allows the platform to carry a human rider or substantial equipment, although the publicly demonstrated humanoid-riding test is a demonstration rather than evidence of long-term commercial operation under maximum load.
The robot is designed for relatively slow but controlled movement. Public reports put its maximum speed at around 7–10 km/h, while reported range is approximately 40 kilometers on a charge.
Its four-legged architecture is intended to give the Qiji X1 access to terrain such as slopes, gravel, mud and other uneven surfaces. The machine uses electric actuators to move its legs and an onboard control system to adjust foot placement and maintain balance.
This could make the concept useful for off-road transportation, heavy-load movement, inspection or emergency-response applications where conventional wheeled platforms may face obstacles.
As per the manufactures reports, DaxAI has begun taking orders and reservations for Qiji X1 through commercial channels.
